Fall is in the air and that means a couple of things…pumpkin spiced everything and football!
Getting ready for the beginning of the football season, The Bell Center held its 9th Annual Tailgate Challenge on Saturday, August 26, and it was so much fun! The streets and the parking lot were packed full of tailgaters in full team spirit, including several team tents from Alabama, Alabama Hammers, Auburn, Georgetown, Georgia Tech, Hawaii, Kansas State, Kentucky, LSU, Mississippi State, Missouri, Oklahoma, Penn State, Samford, Tennessee and Texas! Several organizations and companies also came out to tailgate: the Bell Center Youth Alliance, BioTech Limb & Brace, Capital Growth Buchalter, DixiePinkDrink.com, Jim N’Nicks, Team Blue, The Service Guild of Birmingham, Twin Construction and Vulcan Materials Company.
Teams served their tailgating favorite food and drinks and team spirit to all event-goers as well as judges. Winners were awarded with blue ribbons:
- Best Tasting Food: Team: Alabama Corporate: Team Blue (Blue Cross Blue Shield)
- Best Tasting Drink: Texas
- Most Team Spirit: Oklahoma
- Best All-Around: Mississippi State
- People’s Choice: Kentucky
Judges were: Jim Dunaway and Ryan Brown with WJOX 94.5 RoundTable, Will Lochamy, Reed Lochamy and Scott “Reg” Register with Birmingham Mountain Radio, Lauren Sisler from al.com and SEC Network, Ashlee Jones with Coca Cola and Steven “Stingray” Ray.
Children enjoyed the Kids Zone Presented by Piggly Wiggly, as well as visits from our favorite mascots: Aubie (Auburn), Big Al (Alabama), Blaze (UAB) and Spike (Samford).
With over 1,500 in attendance, the Tailgate Challenge was definitely a huge success. We truly appreciate all of the sponsors, team tents, volunteers and attendees who helped make this such a big event! We hope to see everyone at the 10th Annual Tailgate Challenge on August 25, 2018!
